Thank You for Smoking is based on the novel by Christopher Buckley with the same title. Buckley has a notorious talent for the satyr, which he has exhibited in his writing and journalistic career. He has published his work is a good number of outlets, including Forbes magazine, Esquire or the Daily Beast . In this book, he exploits his talent for the satyr, which he does not limit to the profession of public relations, but also questions the integrity of politicians, legislators and media.
In the film, we repeatedly se the lobbyist Nick Naylor engaging in debates, arguments, and, of course, a series of PR stunts to advance the agenda of Big Tobacco. He forms alliances with other lobbyists and cultivates relationships with journalists and politicians to influence public opinion in favor of smoking, one of the most difficult PR jobs nowadays.
The following Key scenes highlight the most relevant aspects of the PR activity.
